About Bed BugsBed bugs are small parasitic insects ranging from 1 -7 millimeters in size and commonly infest homes. Bed bugs do not live on their hosts like many parasites do. Once they have finished a meal, they retreat back to their hiding spots.
Bed bugs come out of their shelters at night and feed on the blood of their hosts, typically humans or pets. Beds are a perfect spot for these bugs to shelter and give easy access to their sleeping hosts at night. They are attracted to the warmth and smell of humans and will come out to feed and then retreat to their dwelling, which may include furniture, under mattresses, luggage. They can feed on dogs, cats, even rodents or birds, however, their host of choice is humans. Bed bug bites can cause itchy red bumps or welts on the skin. Modes of Infestation: Bed bugs typically find their way into new homes by hitching a ride on a person’s clothing, luggage, or other personal belongings that have been in an infested place. This commonly happens when people are traveling and have visited an infested place of lodging, entertainment, or means of transportation such as an airport, train, or vehicle. In areas where homes are in close proximity, as is found in many cities, bed bugs can easily travel from home to home through tiny holes in the walls or in ducts. Bringing in second hand furniture (i.e. beds, sofas, chairs) or clothing that is unknowingly infested is another way bed bugs can find their way in to your home or business Signs you have Bed Bugs: It can be hard to spot bed bugs as they are very sneaky and hide during the day.
